How to Manage Your HTML5 Site

To edit your website, you must access the Website Editor. This tool allows you to customise every aspect of your site, from layout to content. 

Step 1

Go to the site overview screen where you can manage your website:

  • Before accessing the website editor, start on the site overview screen.
  • It displays the website name, publication status, and options to edit or preview.
  • Familiarise yourself with the options for later use.

Step 2

Exploring the website editor once inside the website editor:

  • Click on the blue “Edit” button to enter the website editor.
  • Notice the various options on the left and top of the screen, these options will be used throughout the editing process.
  • When you move your mouse cursor around the screen, certain elements of the site will have a blue outline, indicating that they can be edited.

Step 3

Editing text and headings on your website:

  • Identify the elements on your site that can be edited by the blue outline.
  • These may include headings, subheadings, paragraphs and buttons.
  • Click on the element you want to edit, and a text editing menu will appear.
  • In the text editing menu, delete the existing text and enter your own content.
  • Format the text by applying bold, italic, underlined styles, changing colours, or adjusting the size.
  • Add links to the text to direct users to external websites or different parts of your own site.
  • Click the green arrow to indicate that you are done.
  • Any changes will take effect immediately.

Step 4

Replacing and editing images on your website:

  • Left-click on the image you want to change.
  • This will open the image content menu on the left side of the screen.
  • In the menu, you can upload a new image or select from existing images.
  • Choose the desired image and add a brief description in the alt text field for SEO purposes.
  • To edit an image, click on the “Edit” option in the image content menu.
  • This will open the image editing software, where you can make desired changes.
  • After editing, click “Save and Close” to see the updated image on your site.

Step 5

Editing website icons:

  • Identify the website icons you wish to edit.
  • Left-click on the icon you want to replace, and the icon content menu will appear.
  • In the menu, you can upload your own icon or choose one from the icon library.
  • Select the new icon you want to use, and it will replace the existing one.
  • Remember to provide a description in the alt text field for accessibility and SEO purposes.

Step 6

Adding external links to images:

  • Locate the image you want to link to an external website.
  • Left-click on the image and the image content menu will appear.
  • Choose the “Link Image” option in the menu.
  • Select the type of link you want to add, such as a website URL, an existing page, or a different anchor on the same page.
  • Enter the appropriate URL and choose whether you want the link to open in a new tab.
  • Preview the change to ensure it functions correctly.
  • To remove the link, follow the same process and select the “Remove Link” option.

Step 7

Switching between pages:

  • Use the page drop-down menu at the top left to switch to a different page for editing.
  • Select the desired page from the available options.

Step 8

Previewing and publishing changes:

  • Click on “Preview” at the top left to enter preview mode.
  • Review the changes made on desktop, mobile and tablet views.
  • Ensure all changes appear as desired.
  • Click on “Republish” at the top right to publish the changes to the live website.
  • Confirm the publication and receive the website link.
  • Click on the link to view the published website with all the applied changes.
